Taking pictures and video of children and young people’s achievements and endeavours is a wonderful way of capturing a memory and promoting success. The increased use of technology has made it easier to use pictures and images in either print or web format. With this increased usage comes greater responsibility to ensure the rights and safety of those included in the images are safeguarded.

At St Benedict’s, photographs are commonly taken of pupils during the school day, on school trips and during extra-curricular activities. These photos cheer up the appearance of our weekly newsletters, pupil planners and school website. There may be opportunities with local press or through the Diocese of Birmingham to publish an article relating to a student event. They may even be considered for marketing materials for a wider audience.

Our school is committed to safeguarding the young people in its care. Legislation places an obligation on us all to promote their welfare. The Data Protection Act 1998 also emphasises the need to ensure that consent is given for the use of images of clearly identifiable people, children and adults alike.

The school can no longer assume a parent’s/ carer’s approval for using images of your children and must, therefore, maintains a register of pupils whose images can and cannot be used for school business.

If you have not already provided consent, or wish for your child’s image and identity to be protected, please download and complete the form below and return it to the school office.
